"As a Chinese-American woman, I am constantly subjected to the narrow expectations of those who presume to understand me based solely on my gender and race. Because of this, I’ve grown to delight in subverting these expectations, both in life and in my writing. My aim as an artist is to three-dimensionalize those who have thus far been underrepresented, and therefore have been stereotyped."
